SAVE THE DATE for the CARWH 2012 Conference! / RETENEZ LA DATE DE LA CONFÉRENCE ACRST 2012!

The next CARWH conference will be held in Vancouver on June 1 and 2, 2012 (with Student Day on May 31st) The local host of this conference is WorksafeBC.  The conference will be held at the Fairmont Waterfront Hotel in downtown Vancouver, which is quite an attractive site. Our host has negotiated an excellent room rate at the hotel and free internet service. The room rate for CARWH is $189 per night, an offer that is available three days before and after the conference.The Scientific Organising committee is co-chaired by Kay Teschke (UBC) and Peter Smith (IWH).  They are now assembling a multidisciplinary committee of key scholars from across Canada to plan the CARWH conference program.   A call for abstracts will be announced soon. Our biennial CARWH conference has become a key national multi disciplinary gathering of researchers, students and stakeholders who are focused on the topic of work and health. The conference fulfils CARWH’s important mandate to have a forum that brings us all together. It also sets the stage for the future of work and health research in Canada.

La prochaine conférence ACRST aura lieu à Vancouver les 1 et 2 juin 2012 (la Journée Étudiants aura lieu le 31 mai). La conférence sera organisée par WorksafeBC et se tiendra à l’Hôtel Fairmont Waterfront situé au centre-ville de Vancouver. Outre le charme du lieu, vous pourrez bénéficier d’excellents tarifs pour les chambres et du service internet gratuit, négociés pour vous par les organisateurs. Ainsi, la nuitée sera de 189 $ pour l’ACRST et cette offre sera valide 3 jours avant et 3 jours après la durée de la conférence.Kay Teschke (UCB) et Peter Smith (ITS) dirigent le Comité Scientifique qui organise la conférence et mettent actuellement en place un comité composé de spécialistes venus de partout au Canada afin d’établir le programme de la conférence. Un appel aux soumissions sera bientôt lancé. En devenant une rencontre biennale, incontournable, nationale et interdisciplinaire permettant aux chercheurs, aux étudiants et aux différents acteurs de la santé au travail de se rencontrer, la conférence remplit le mandat de l’ACRST et balise le terrain pour la recherche sur la santé et la sécurité au travail au Canada.

CARWH Communications Fellowship / Bourse d’étude ACRST en Communications

We recently launched the CARWH Communications Fellowship. It is a pilot initiative to provide OHS news on the CARWH website and actively engage students in knowledge transfer about occupational health and safety in Canada and abroad.  These Fellows are “tagging” interesting work and health news articles, meetings, conferences, job opportunities and other related information, and adding them to our website.   The 2011 recipients of this fellowship are:  Craig Ervine, University of Waterloo Kim McLeod, University of British Columbia Tilak Dutta,  University of Toronto Darren MacDonald, Dalhousie University

Nous avons récemment lancé la Bourse d’étude ACRST en Communications. Il s’agit d’une initiative permettant d’une part la publication des nouvelles en SST sur le site web de l’ACRST et d’autre part l’implication des étudiants en Transfert des Connaissances dans la SST au Canada et ailleurs. Ces étudiants seront chargés de repérer et de publier sur le site les articles et les travaux pertinents, les réunions, les conférences, les opportunités d’emploi et les informations relatives à la santé. Les récipiendaires de la bourse pour l’année 2011 sont :  Craig Ervine, Université de Waterloo Kim McLeod, Université de Colombie Britannique Tilak Dutta,  Université de Toronto Darren MacDonald, Université Dalhousie

The CARWH Board of Directors is seeking a Student Representative / Le Comité de direction ACRST cherche un Délégué auprès des étudiants

We are committed to engaging students in all aspects of the organisation. This is a two year commitment. The Student rep is expected to attend quarterly Board meetings and participate in all discussions and decisions.  If you, or one of your students, is interested in this opportunity, please send your nomination to Joan Eakin (joan.eakin@utoronto.ca) by May 6th.

The AGM will be held June 7th from noon to 1pm Eastern Time/9-10 am Pacific Time.  Members can call in individually or as a group.  We will be hosting teleconference groups in Toronto and Vancouver.  Details will be forwarded shortly.
